Tip for Saving on Sports Equipment

We are getting ready for soccer season! This will be the first year that Mr. B plays soccer. Thus, he needed shin guards. Since young children grow so quickly, we don’t like to buy new sports equipment if we can help it.

We have a Play it Again Sports store nearby so that was our first stop. The customer service rep asked what we were looking for. When I mentioned soccer shin guards he took me over to a wall of new shin guards. Hubby asked if he had any used equipment. Sure enough! He pulled out a big bucket full of soccer gear.

We ended up finding Adidas shin guards that fit Mr. B for $2.99 as opposed to new shin guards starting at $8. We were happy to save that extra $5!

In the past we have also bought sports equipment from consignment sales and thrift stores. If you have a young child in sports, take a look at second hand equipment. Many times you can find items in good shape since it is only used for one season before the child outgrows it.

If you can’t find what your child needs used, don’t forget about the Big 5 coupon I posted last week!

Do you have any tips for saving on sports equipment?

  1. I’d shop at Play it Again Sports, but I hope you gave the shin guards the sniff test first. Those things get digusting fast and there’s no cure–especially when the kids get older.
