I need to invest in a book of remedies or find an Internet site with remedies for everything under the sun. There’s always a tidbit that our grandmothers used to heal this or fix that. My husband is always telling me to use so and so that his grandmother used. I always laugh and probably roll my eyes but older wisdom is sometimes the best! If only our grandmothers were still with us so that we could just ask them!
Recently, my husband slept in a client’s cabin while he was doing some work out of town. He didn’t shake out the comforter and woke with a spider bite. The infection continued to attack his body as he wondered what his grandmother would do if she had a spider bite. He called his mom to ask her and she told him to wrap bacon around the bite. Yuck! I laughed and reiterated my disgust over the phone and told him to go to the doctor! Sometimes old remedies must take a backseat. There’s always a toss of the coin but in my opinion when your health is at stake get a medical opinion!
Now for the spots on my white shirts, what shall I do!?! The armpit stains are, well, the pits. These yellow stains look like they’re staying. I read about Deo-Go this summer and wondered would this new concoction in a bottle work. The directions say just squirt on the spot, rub, then wash normally! Hmm? Should I search for a home remedy or pay the $11 to purchase Deo-Go!?!
Here are a few other tidbits, I found interesting that I found in Woman’s Day this summer:
- When coating a pan with cooking spray, rest it on the opened dishwasher door—no mess to clean up.
- Ivory bar soap removes stubborn stains on white clothing that detergent doesn’t.
- Use toothpaste to remove permanent marker from tables and countertops.

My grandson put a hugh permanent marker stain on my dining room table. I have been unable to remove it. I just saw your post that said use toothpaste. It works. It removed the entire mark. Thank you so much.
