Last week I showed you how we are growing celery from organic celery we purchased in the produce department. Reader Heather mentioned that you could do the same thing with romaine lettuce! I just had to give it a try!
After I cut the lettuce off to make a salad, I placed the bottom of the lettuce in a glass of water in my kitchen window. I did this step because I didn’t have time at the moment to go plant it int he garden. Within just a couple of days, the lettuce started growing!
Today I spent time in the garden and finally planted the romaine lettuce. I just buried most of the root portion under the dirt with just a few leaves shooting up. Water it well after you cover it with the soil.
I am sure you can do this with other varieties of lettuce too. Lettuce likes cooler weather so we will see how long I can keep this going!
