I (Litsa) thoroughly enjoy the green on the trees throughout the summer months. Their beauty against homes and landscaped yards are spectacular. Unfortunately, our tree leaves are not dollar bills. Nor are the “leaves” greener in the neighbors’ yards….
We all have the challenges of paying off debt and/or current bills, spending money on wants/needs, saving money for tomorrow’s journey, & more! Coupons, Kroger deals, etc. on How to Have it All help me save money throughout the year. However, I’m always motivated to save more where/when I can. Thus, I thought I’d embrace this 52 week challenge of savings this month!
Although we are one month past mid-year, this challenge is still feasible. You may have seen the chart on Facebook in how to save money. During week one (you too can choose August 1st as your first week), you save $1…week two save $2, week 3 save $3, etc. By the end of the year, your nest egg will begin to grow if you have diligently placed money aside for your own nest egg. Then on January 1st, you can continue where you’ve left off (week 21) or start back over on week 1. This is a fairly easy way to start a savings plan!
You may even want to consider having your children join the savings plan. Decide on a jar or bank to place the money in each week. Use a visual/written calendar to help mark off the weeks. Simple addition practice will help students hone in on their math skills. Additionally, you can have children have their own jars of savings (week one add $0.10, week two add $0.20 or keep it simpler and have younger children just add a dollar each week to their jars of savings).
Are you ready to watch your savings grow in the next twenty-two weeks of 2013?
