Try Something New: Pomegranates

When I was in middle school we lived in a house that had a pomegranate tree. Every Fall we would enjoy the ruby red fruit. Since we had plenty, my mom would also use some for decoration! This week for try something new my boys tried a pomegranate for the first time.

Pomegranates look intimidating due to the tough exterior skin and the white interior membrane. The ruby red arils are worth it though! Pomegranates are full of antioxidants, Vitamin C and Potassium. They are low in calories too so they make a perfect snack. The red juice does stain though so make sure you are careful! Pomegranates are good by themselves or as an addition to a recipe.

It’s hard to describe the taste of a pomegranate. It is a unique flavor. The arils are what you eat and they are juicy but crunchy at the same time. Capt. M liked them after giving it a try after two different occasions. Mr. B would only try them once and it was a no go. I really think it is the crunch that bothered him.

Have you tried anything new this week?
