Try Something New: Magenta Melon

It’s prime melon season! I was surprised by all of the different melons Kroger had in stock last weekend. I saw last years favorite, the Sprite Melon, and several others. This week we decided to try the magenta melon as our Try Something New. The name had me curious- was it really magenta inside?

As you can see in the picture, it is a bright colored melon. It looks similar to a cantaloupe although a much deeper and brighter orange. I didn’t get a great picture of the outside skin. It does have green indented lines among the light colored skin.

The magenta melon has a strong smell. It is a super sweet and juicy melon. The magenta melon tastes similar to a cantaloupe although it is stronger and sweeter. It is larger than a cantaloupe in size. I had hopes that it would last my boys more than a day. One taste of the magenta melon and it was gone in 24 hours! It can be served all by itself or as a sweet addition to a fruit salad.

What type of melon is your favorite? Have you tried anything new this week?
