Try Something New: Loquat

When we were visiting with my dad a few days ago, we went out to dinner at a Chinese restaurant. It was buffet style and my boys went straight for the fruit. There was an interesting orange ball shaped fruit that I had not seen before called a loquat. We decided it should be our try something new this week!

Capt. M and I both tried the loquat. It is sweet and tasted like a cross between a pear, peach and citrus. The fruit was soft yet not soggy. I thought it had a pit of a very soft pear texture. Capt. M and I both enjoyed the loquat and would eat it again if we come across it.

The loquat tree is a native to China and grows in tropical environments. If you ever come across a loquat, give it a try!

  2. I’m from Chile, and we have those over there.
    I LOVEEEEE them.
I haven’t see them here, do you know where can i get some of those?

    • Hi Andrea,
I have not seen them in the store here but I would think a specialty store like Whole Foods or Trader Joes may carry them. Several people I have talked to int he past few days have said that they knew someone or had a loquat tree themselves. I would ask around and see if anyone has one in your area if you live in a warmer climate. Good luck!

  3. I live in Georgia (middle GA), and i have not idea if that tree would grow here.
If you find out something about it, please let me know.
    Thank you so much.
