‘Tis the season….of catalogs! Christmas lists? Open houses? Boutique windows!?! Layaways? Wants? Needs? Desires!?! “Mommy, I……….!” “Mommy, I want….” And all long the way you have a streaming list of your own wants…..heels, boots, size down jeans, workout gear…..Where does the list end? If I buy _____, can I pay for ______this month!?! Should I buy this _____or pay an extra payment on _______?
If you’re responsible for the family’s budget and a fashionista like me (Litsa), maybe you struggle with wants and needs too!?! As the season of material desires flood the consumer market, I’m reminded of being frugal. This summer, I read an article about a shopper taking 365 days—a YEAR—to buy only items from a thrift store that her family needed/wanted. I found that article interesting! Have I tried it? No. Will I try it? Not for 365 days but for two months, the challenge is on!?! However, I am only going to use myself as the genuine pig since I AM the one that LOVES to SHOP and to frequently replace older items in my closet & house for newer ones (maybe even before their time to be replaced).
I’ll let you know how the journey unfolds at the first of the year! Yes! I am going to try being REALLY frugal for the month of November and December on myself!!! I started today with a trip to Goodwill—a half price Saturday run because I NEEDED new clothes that FIT. My size 6 pants were sliding past my hips thus I deemed it a MUST—a need to shop for a few FITTED clothes so that I could enjoy my new figure!
The trip today consisted for a total of $19.05 for
- One gray Ann Taylor Cardigan
- One red wrap Moda International (a Victoria Secret line)
- One black-wintry fully lined JcPenny Trouser
- One think Ann Taylor Loft Khaki
- One brown sweater from the Gap
- One Kasper fashionable one button jacket in olive green and cranberry
- One preemie “baby doll” outfit
- One Starbucks 16 ounce coffee mug (for my husband)
I was pleased with my purchases! The best part was that I found one item for my little girl’s baby doll and one item for my husband so that I could share my savings and LOVE with those that I care most about…..I encourage you to continue your own journey of savings throughout the holiday season because what really matters is the gifts we give from our heart—-time together creating memories!
This thrifty fashionista is journeying with you to save money because all that glitters isn’t always golden!
