It is mid-August but I (Litsa) had my first Halloween catalog arrive in the mail! The costumes are ‘wild and whimsical’ ——-‘sweet and spooky’ and most importantly full of character! When I envision little ones, the ‘little heroes’ in our world, wearing costumes, I think of personalities coming alive—–and imaginations!

With a little one on one time during the weekends, we can use our time with our little ones—and our big (older) children to discuss that outrageous costumes ROCK but the budget must stay in tact too! Thus, it’s a great time to get creative. Drive to local thrift stores now for ideas—-or specifically for costumes and props.

Go in with a list of ideas and see what you or your child are drawn to based on your conversation of costume ideas at home. With your list and budget, you should come out with something interesting!

I must say that two of my favorite fall costumes that appeared on social media (Friends on Facebook) last year were those pieced together! One is posted above and her mom says, “It was a combo of costumes we saw online and some of our own modifications…add some fur, goodwill purchases, hot glue, and time, and that’s it! My mom DEF did the sewing parts! I can design, but was NOT blessed with the talent to sew AT ALL! Couldn’t have put pieces together without her!”

Save a dollar. Invest time with family—and/or friends. Get creative. Share talents.

And let the ‘Tricks-N-Treats’ begin……

Okay. I agree. Maybe not in mid August but planning now is simply smart marketing for your family’s budget.

Now, that’s a TREAT!
