I (Litsa) have frequented Whole Foods several times these past two months! It’s a 2.5 hour drive away so I don’t venture there often but while I’m in Memphis—why not!?! I know that they carry more than I LOVE! If it’s a fruit or a vegetable, it’s the perfect medley of sweetness! And their cookies….
However, no one told me that you shop with a green smoothie in hand!?! Ha! I arrived with my Starbucks coffee in hand! But vowed that next time that I arrived at Whole Foods, I would taste one of their smoothies——–GREEN at that!! So, I did! The GREEN DREAM was recommended by the Whole Foods Staff. Yes. I paid this price and the hefty TN tax but I.enjoyed. every.ounce. of.my.green.dream smoothie—-yummy!
So I’m pondering: Is juicing affordable?
I believe they are if you allow juicing to be done at home with a plan——for one everything that goes into a fresh glass of juice is fresh! Everything that goes into my homemade smoothies is fresh too! Nothing out of a bottle….speaking of bottles!?! I did see the Whole Foods employee pour apple juice from a plastic labeled container…..what happened to a fresh apple?? If everything is FRESH, you are feeding your body nutrients it needs—–you know the saying….keeps the doctor away! Powerfoods!
And if you shop the DEALS at your local grocery store, you are bound to WIN too! Kroger in Dyersburg, TN continues to have the best deals EARLY in the mornings! Produce gets the stickers: Manager’s Special! Today, I was able to find 4 fresh pineapples for $6 (a possible Loss Leader) but a great price indeed! Additionally, I came home with a five pound bag of carrots for only $2.99! Aside from a bowlful, all the carrots were juiced along with one pineapple—–decadent! I even had to stop making my salad that I intended to eat for lunch! Thus, as you can tell my question is being answered: Juicing is affordable for our household.
Are you juicing fruits and vegetables for your family?

Hi Litsa. You bet juicing is affordable! I can’t imagine being without a juicer in our family. We have been juicing for almost two decades and love it more all the time!:-)
Another aspect of the cost involved in juicing, is that we in effect get more value for money from our fruits and veggies. As we gain access to all the precious nutrients that would normally remain trapped in the plant fibers, it means that we get far more for from each item we use. And the pulp doesn’t have to be lost either – there are lots of ways to make use of it. So, all in all a winner I would say!
