A couple of weeks ago I shared how I was starting an herb garden from seeds. My little seedlings are doing well and I have transferred them to a larger pot. However, it will still be several weeks before I can start harvesting. As I browsed the produce section at Whole Foods, I saw this lovely organic basil plant. The smell brought me right to summer! I LOVE fresh basil and pesto!

I decided I couldn’t wait for my seedlings and bought the above plant for $2.99. If you are looking for a quick start to an herb garden, look for live herb plants in the produce section at your local grocery store. These plants can sit in a your window seal or you can plant them in your garden. I will transfer my basil plant to my garden when the weather warms.

It is actually a good thing that I will have basil plants in different production stages. Staggering the planting will make the plants plentiful throughout the whole season. Looks like there is plenty of fresh basil pesto in my future!
