Country Life: Homemade Greenhouse

We decided to build a small greenhouse this year to extend the vegetable garden season! Since we eat so much produce, it makes sense for us to try to provide as much fresh produce as possible. We didn’t want to invest too much money into a greenhouse though.

Hubby was able to score some free plexiglass from his brother. Thus the design of this greenhouse is based on the size of the plexiglass sheets we had! We did have to invest in some lumber but overall this greenhouse was pretty cost effective. The “door” of the greenhouse is made from a covering that used to top the boys playset. Since the heavy plastic was not being used, it was the perfect size for the greenhouse.

We have not planted anything in the greenhouse yet as we are supposed to have very cold temperatures this week with possible accumulating snow on Wednesday. But next weekend if the weather cooperates, we wills tart the first seeds. The greenhouse will allow us to get a head start on the warm weather crops such as tomatoes, cucumbers and squash.

Do you have a greenhouse? Or are you considering making one? I would love to hear your thoughts!
