You might have noticed recently that coupons look a little different. In July of 2011 many companies started switching over to the new GS1 databar on coupons. Until recently, coupons still contained the old UPC style barcode and the GS1 databar. I noticed that many of the printable coupons from Coupons.com last week only contained the new GS1 databar.
I just thought I would bring this to your attention as the coupons do look a little odd. Plus if your stores have no updated to the new GS1 databar system at their registers the coupons will not scan. Most major retailers have updated their registers. However, I am sure there are some smaller retailers who have not.
Eventually ever retailer will have the GS1 databar system and I think it will be a good thing. The GS1 contains a lot more information in the coding that will reduce mis-redemption. You can read more about the GS1 databar and what it means for couponers at this link.
Have you had any issues with stores taking coupons that only have the GS1 databar?
