Since we have chickens, we usually have an abundance of eggs. Our hens lay brown shelled eggs. When it comes time to dying Easter eggs, we use our farm fresh eggs. We have never had an issue with dying brown eggs. White shelled eggs probably take up the dye faster, but the brown shelled eggs will dye too.
For dyeing brown shelled eggs, just leave the hard boiled eggs in the dye for a longer period of time. We also use the vinegar method when using the colored tablets for dying eggs. The eggs in the picture above are brown shelled eggs. There is really no difference in how they look compared to white shelled eggs! Keep in mind that if you are going to use fresh eggs for hard boiling, they should be at least two weeks old for easy peeling.
If you like a natural dye, try the onion skin dying technique. Again, this technique will work on brown shelled eggs! Remember to read this post on how to boil the perfect egg.
