Applesauce cinnamon ornaments are a fun and easy craft to do with the kids. They also make great little gifts to give or a cute present topper. Plus these ornaments smell so good! I bought the applesauce and cinnamon at discount store (Sharp Shopper) which made this project very inexpensive to make.
Applesauce Cinnamon Ornaments
2 Cups Applesauce
2 Cups Ground Cinnamon
Waxed Paper
Rolling Pin
Cookie Cutters
Straw
In a large bowl mix the applesauce and cinnamon. You want the dough to be thick- kind of like playdough. Once the applesauce and cinnamon were incorporated, I found it easiest to use my hands to finish the mixing. Form dough into a ball.
Place the ball of dough onto a piece of waxed paper. Place another piece of waxed paper on top and use a rolling pin to roll out the dough. You want the dough to at least be 1/4″ thick. If the dough is too thin the ornament will be too delicate when dried.
Once the dough is rolled out, use cookie cutters to cut out shapes. We also molded our own shapes! If you plan on hanging the ornaments with ribbon use a straw to make a hole. Place the cut outs on a cookie sheet. We let ours dry in the window seal for about 3 days- flipping them over every day. If you are in a hurry, you can bake them in the oven at 200 degrees for 3 hours or so.
I glued buttons on a few of the ornaments to give them a little more color. Just use a hot glue gun to place the buttons on the ornaments.
