The weather is changing and Fall is the perfect time to make sure your house is in order before colder temperatures hit. Here are few things to put on your “to do” list.

  • Change the furnace filter before you switch on the heater. It is also a good idea to have your HVAC system serviced to make sure everything is in working order.
  • If you have a chimney, make sure to clean out the soot and creosote before starting your first fire. If you have a gas fireplace, make sure to have the propane tank filled and to light the pilot light.
  • Check the weatherstripping around all exterior doors and windows.
  • As the leaves start to fall make sure to keep the gutters cleaned out.
  • If you live in an area that drops below freezing, make sure any exposed water pipes are insulated. Also drain all garden hoses and store them away.

Doing a little preparation over the next few weeks will help you save on your energy bill and help maintain your home.
