Have you ever participated in a challenge where your meals are made from items in your stockpile? Well, now is your chance to participate! After looking over our finances this morning, this month is going to be tight for us. My husband has not been working much. When he does work, we are already feeling the effects of the high gas prices since he drives long distances. For a moment I was upset at our situation. Then I looked at my husband and said “I guess we are eating from the pantry and freezer for the next few weeks!” He agreed that we have plenty of food.
I have done a challenge like this before and I found it fun to try different recipes. I did come up with a few guidelines for our family. If you are participating, set up guidelines that work for your family.
My Guidelines
- I will purchase produce, dairy products and bread each week. These are things that are not in our stockpile but feel that they are necessary for making adequate meals.
- I will purchase items that are under $0.50 or free. I have a hard time giving up coupon shopping altogether! Plus, we will need to add to our stockpile at some point.
- We will not eat out this month. This is tough! My co-workers eat out often and I have a hard time resisting. So I am going to say it again- I will not eat out this month!
I hope that some of you will join along with me! We can share recipes and words of encouragement to make it through.

I’m in! I just had a baby, and don’t want to do much shopping anyway. I did get a Wendy’s Frosty today, though, but I’ll try to be better!
Congratulations on the baby Jill! I say you deserve the Frosty!!! In fact maybe you should have a little disclaimer on your monthly goals- Allowed one Frosty a week as a reward for staying up all night with baby!
Thanks for joining in!
I am in!! Sounds fun to see if we can make it a month on what we have :). Samson trips will be made because just like yourself I love my coupon trips so much. Being a stay at home mom is not always easy but it’s so rewarding, but I get my mommy time when I go coupon shopping.
Tosha,
I am the same way about my coupon shopping- I love to go alone! Today I took my 2 year old and I was totally flustered. It was nice to spend one on one time with him but I did mess up a few times! Looking forward to the challenge this month!
I’m in, too. This is my second week of it, actually. I’ll purchase dairy, fresh produce, fill-in ingredients, and items for the food bank. I’ve got my menus planned through April! :)
Lisa,
I am so impressed that you have your menu planned through April! That is serious organization! Isn’t it great that we can rely on our stockpiles? It takes the pressure off from shopping each week. Although my boys go through a ton of milk and bread!
