Can you believe that a new year is right around the corner? Time has gotten away from me and I have not even planned our New Years Eve celebration yet! Traditionally we stay home. Hubby and I have never been big on going out. It all started with our dog- a border collie mix who is deathly afraid of loud noises. Now we have the boys and we have carried on the tradition of staying home.

So what do we do? We invite my husbands family over to play games and eat lots of finger food! The menu is based on appetizer type dishes; it’s easy and the kids love it. I just learned about the Southern tradition of eating black eyed peas for good luck, so I am including Black-Eyed Pea Dip this year. Usually several Wii games are played along with several rounds of Blackjack. Long ago my hubby was a blackjack dealer at a casino. We take our Blackjack seriously with real clay poker chips, a felt table topper and hubby as the official dealer. It is a fun family night that usually ends before the clock strikes midnight.

What are your New Years Eve Traditions? Do you stay out into the wee hours of the night or do you stay home?
